When I was younger earning money to me meant, the money I can save. My whole goal was how can I earn it and what do I want once I have “enough”.

That word, “enough”, when is enough, enough?

The soul of Money is a beautiful book written by Lynne Twist. Money is a part of all our lives. There is no escaping it. Try as one might, earning money, spending money, saving money is all part of our life. It’s hard to put into words that describe how I feel about money, but Lynne did a great job here.

“When your attention is on what’s lacking and scarce- in your life, in your work, in your family, in your town- then that becomes what you’re about. That is the song you sing, the vision you generate. You engage in lack and longing and what’s missing, and you call others to that same experience, if your attention is on the problems and the breakdowns with money, or scarcity thinking that says there isn’t enough, more is better or that’s just the way it is, then that is where your consciousness resides. Those thoughts and fears grow from the attention you give them and can take over your life. No matter how much money you have it won’t be enough. No amount of money will buy you genuine peace of mind.”

One of the many concepts I like to think about is the Have-Do -Be. When I Have money then I can Do as I like so I will Be happy. This unspoken concept we are taught starting as a child. We want the new toy, then the fashionable clothes, on to the car and into adulthood, ever so wanting the next best thing so we will be happy. Through the driving forces of advertisement and media, we are taught that when we have x we will be happier. So, we try to obtain that x in our life and for some fleeting reason, we don’t feel the happiness we thought we were promised. You can see it in all kinds of social class those who have very little and even those who have what seems like it all. Discontent, not satisfied, searching for more.

Then there are those who are happy no matter what their lot in life is, they are truly happy, or how I see it, they have real authentic joy. What’s the missing link? It isn’t social class, fame, or even dumb luck. They have made the conscious choice to find gratitude in all things regardless of what they obtained in life. Their goals in life are something they have and strive for. Yet happiness they have already decided to BE. If you truly want happiness you choose to live in that state you choose to live in the Be concept before you ever Have. Then whatever you choose to focus on and grow in, the Be will not change but your Have will.

The growth I have and am experiencing in my thinking has made all the difference. Not needing to be fixed or be added to, but wanting to improve, expand my horizon, and become more, so I can give more.

Let your light shine! Ground yourself in your spiritual nature, get your mental head on straight, and take the physical actions to create, your soul will be nourished, and you will come up not needing or wanting more, yet you will gain more every day. Be- Do- Have a great way to live.

Energy VS Charisma

Energy VS Charisma

As my business coach and I were enjoying a coffee at a local coffee shop, he asked me a question, one which I can’t remember exactly, but do remember how I answered him.  I told him that my goal in life, now, is to live so that I could not just be liked, but also respected. Side note, as a coach it’s not always what you say, or what questions you ask, to the client that is the most important, it is more about what they gain from the conversation. For my part, Being liked was not hard for me. I believe it is because I genuinely like people, all people, and they notice this. I try to live in pure love for others, no judgment, and it has served me well.

When I think of respect I think of the elderly, educated scholars and people that have been through their own trials and have come out on top in some way or another. However, a higher form of respect was in my mind at that time. For example, there are people I truly disagree with; maybe I don’t appreciate their demeanor and tone but their work ethic, and directness and candor will earn my respect even when we can’t see eye to eye. They listened to me, I listened to them and we leave on healthy ground.

The gravity of the thought, “I am tired of just being liked, I want to be respected too” was, and is, huge for me. It feels good to hear people say, “Angela Dryden is such a nice person”, “Angela is so thoughtful”, “Angela seems to get along with everyone”. Yes, and thank you. Hearing others say those things feels really good and I am grateful. But, then I question myself, “am I being my true self?” “Am I willing to give an opinion, and if someone doesn’t agree with it, could I walk away with grace and still be respected?

In his book, Start with Why, author Simon Sinek compares Energy vs Charisma which explains far better than I can the concept of wanting respect over just being liked. “Charisma has nothing to do with Energy; it comes from a clarity of Why. It comes from absolute conviction in an idea bigger than oneself. Energy, in contrast, comes from a good night sleep or lots of caffeine. Energy can excite. But only charisma can inspire. Charisma commands loyalty. Energy does not.”

This is exactly what I was looking for and am working on creating in my life; clarity in Why, being bigger than oneself, and inspiring and commanding loyalty. Well put Simon! This is just a few sentences, in this page turning book. For this and many other beautiful insights I recommend reading his book.

Thank you, Simon Sinek.

Do you Garden?

Do you Garden?

I have planted a garden before. Successfully? Not so much…but planted? Yes. This year, I had a successful planting!

What made the difference from the years before to this year? The answer to that question was water! Of course, a timer, hose, and a sprinkler also made a huge difference. In the past I did potted beds and your standard ground garden, however I was responsible to deliver the plant it’s water. I found out that I am not as reliable or consistent as I would like to think.

Since I figured out the miracle of irrigation, I now have my rows of tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, cucumbers, lettuce, kale, and cabbage. What next? On to the next chapter of gardening! What the heck am I supposed to do with all this abundance! Start canning sister!

That is right, I cracked into my pioneer life. I have always loved pioneering stories; I mean I grew up with little house on the prairie. You know what I found out about myself? I love canning, in fact I get a high from it, I feel like I am getting into a flow and it is a beautiful thing. I still have a ton to learn. Thank goodness for Pinterest and Google, they have helped me immensely. Also, my sis has been a canning lady for years now. I guess I finally figured out why she loves it so much.
